Verja

The Verja Manifesto

A durable refuge online.

Most of the internet stopped being made of places. It became a feed. Somewhere along the way the rooms we used to gather in got flattened into an endless scroll optimized to keep us looking, not to let us belong.

Verja is a refusal of that. It is built on a simple, stubborn belief: that a community of two hundred people who know each other is worth more than an audience of twenty thousand who don't, and that such a community deserves infrastructure built for what it actually is.

What Verja stands for

Ownership that's real, not promised. Your community is yours. Every conversation, every member, every year of history can go with you in formats other tools can read.

Durability over fashion. Verja is meant to run for decades on boring, well-understood foundations.

Calm by design. No engagement metrics. No algorithmic feed. No manufactured urgency. Things appear in the order they happened.

Privacy as the default, not the upsell. Communities are private and unlisted unless you choose otherwise. Pseudonymity is welcome.

The people who run a community are sovereign in it. Operators set their own rules, culture, and boundaries. Verja is the building, not the landlord.

Who Verja is for

It is for the newsletter writer whose readers want to talk to each other. For the hobby group, the guild, the alumni circle, the small professional network. For the people who left the big platforms on purpose and want a place they can own.

It is not for everyone. It asks for intention. A community here is something you mean to build, not something you bolt on without thinking.

What Verja refuses to be

It will not become a real-time chat app chasing Discord. It will not become a feed with an algorithm deciding what matters. It will not become a creator-monetization machine, a livestream platform, a marketing-site builder, an ad network, an enterprise tool, or a public social network straining to grow as large as possible.

The discipline to stay small and clear is not a limitation of Verja. It is Verja.
